Total Ethiopia Inaugurates Dukam Depot
Total Ethiopia has inaugurated its state-of-the-art Fuel and LPG Depot, located in Dukam town which is 37km south of the capital, Addis Ababa, in the Oromia Regional State. This is our effort to contribute to the reduction of fuel supply chain constraints and further development of the energy industry in Ethiopia. The facility has a total storage capacity of more than 8 million liters of fuel, where the minimum official requirement is only half a million liters. It also stores up to 100 tons of Liquefied petroleum Gas (LPG), and includes an electronically-operated LPG cylinder filling plant and an ethanol blending facility.
This depot is uniquely situated to serve the industry at large with its extra installed capacity. This depot has been constructed on 5.5 hectares of land and is in compliance with national and international standards. It is equipped with state-of-the-art technological devices. For example, we have included a Programmable Logic Control (PLC) system that allows for automated control and monitoring of daily operations. The facility also hosts an automated firefighting system with water and foam storage capacity of 1.1 million liters and 35,000 liters, respectively, which is capable of 3 hours of continuous fire intervention.
The depot is also strategically located for connection to the new railway and will provide a safer and more reliable supply of products to the country. Total Ethiopia has invested more than 270 million ETB and created more than 100 direct and indirect jobs during the construction of the depot. Additionally, Total Ethiopia has invested almost 1 billion ETB to develop new service stations, consumer facilities and aviation depots over the past 5 years in Ethiopia. Official representative of the President of Oromia Regional State, H.E. AtoTolesa Shagi, Minister of Mines, Petroleum & Natural Gas and Ato Ahmed Endris, Deputy Mayor of Dukam, were guests of honor for this occasion. Business partners, service station dealers, stakeholders and Total Ethiopia staff members were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
