Total Ethiopia Celebrates International Women's Day

Total Ethiopia celebrated the International Women's Day on March 8,2021 at its head office, with a theme #ChooseToChallenge”. Speakers were randomly selected from senior and new staff, who recently joined the affiliate. Mrs. Alemitu KASSAYE and Mrs. Emebet GETACHEW delivered their speech by sharing how to be a woman in men’s life & how they struggled to become where they are now. Mrs. Tigist ASSEFA also delivered her speech by focusing on this year’s theme: #ChooseToChallenge. She stressed that women must choose to challenge the stereotypes and rather challenge themselves. They must empower themselves by educating themselves. The audience were very happy and listened to every speech attentively.

 There was also a guest motivational speaker, Dr. Selam Aklilu (a chiropractor), who delivered a speech regarding being a strong woman in every aspect of life. She advised the women to raise their children, especially their sons, to be responsible citizens.

The event was also accompanied by a group play, a dance by the female staffs; traditional coffee and traditional bread cutting ceremony. A lottery draw was also part of the program by giving random gifts to the female staffs.  At the end of the program, Mr. Mesfin TEFERI, HRPA Manager delivered his final remark by emphasizing that the women should help themselves and help their men colleagues to help them in return. He stressed also that women should have some forum so that their needs would be communicated formally which leads to a better workplace for women & men.

This event is celebrated to acknowledge the economic, political, social, and cultural achievements of women from all walks of life. The day is celebrated globally, highlighting the struggles and achievements of women. The event is celebrated on March 8 every year to honor women, salute their courage, celebrate their success, and raise awareness about women's equality. This year, the theme for International Women's Day is "#ChooseToChallenge" aims to highlight and recognize the achievements of women and highlight the issues and problems they are still facing in their respective lives.
